Our Purpose
Kathy L. Taylor is a passionate advocate, mother, and changemaker who founded Boomerang after personally experiencing the failures of the justice and social service systems. Her journey began when her own son developed severe behavioral issues following a traumatic home invasion.
As a devoted mother, Kathy searched endlessly for help—but quickly discovered a harsh truth: there were no meaningful programs available to help boys unless they were already placed on probation. She refused to wait for the system to fail another child.Kathy also witnessed the emotional and systemic struggles her foster son faced as he tried to navigate trauma without a stable support system.
One day, during a heartfelt conversation, he told her:
“Boomerang is needed to help us boys that don’t have fathers. You should name your program Boomerang—because some of us just need to come back to who we are.”That moment left a lasting impact. His words became the foundation of Boomerang’s name and mission—a symbol of return, healing, and rediscovery.
Fueled by love, pain, and unwavering commitment, Kathy founded Boomerang to intervene before incarceration, offering real, accessible support to prevent youth from falling into the system. Her lived experience continues to shape every part of Boomerang’s mission: to give youth, families, and returning citizens the chance to rebuild with dignity, opportunity, and hope.
